Our heating/cooling pads are made with fleece/fleece or fleece/flannel material. The fleece/flannel combination allows you to choose between the hotter side (flannel side) or the cooler side (fleece side). The fleece is more plush than the flannel, although both are nice and soft, so you may also choose the fleece/fleece combination for overall plushness. All heating/cooling pads are double stitched for durability. Pads without covers and inserts are spot clean only. Covers are machine washable and dryable.

Our heating/cooling pads are filled with food grade golden or brown flaxseed. Please see individual pad descriptions for weight of flaxseeds used.

Why flaxseed?

Flaxseeds do not dry out. Other fillers like rice, corn, etc. are water based. The water in them eventually evaporates with repeated heating and the filler will dry out. When the filler dries out, the heating pad no longer heats well and will need to be replaced. Flaxseeds are oil based - the oil in the flaxseed does not evaporate with heating. Therefore the seeds do not dry out. Flaxseed filled heating pads will heat consistently for years.

Flaxseed hold the heat longer than other fillers. The larger pads will hold the heat for up to an hour, since the seeds are filled with oil not water. The oil cools slower than water, therefore the pads stay warm longer.

Food grade flaxseeds are used because they are cleaner and more consistent.

Our heating/cooling pads can be microwaved for 2-4 minutes in a standard microwave. We suggest you start with 2 mins. and then increase an additional 30 secs. as needed. Heating pads can get very hot so check the temperature to insure it is not hot enough to burn the skin before using. Pads can also be used cold. Place pads in a zippered plastic bag and place in the freezer for a minimum of 2 hrs. before using. Pads will stay cold for 10-20 mins. You can also store pads in the freezer so they are ready to use when needed.
